The Festival at the Friars' Gate is a fairy-tale themed 2-day festival in early June featuring vendors, food and entertainment.
We project this event can grow as big as the Okra Strut and bring brisk business into the Irmo area for the weekend. Patterned after the immensely successful Upstate Renaissance Fair, we expect this to become a destination event for rennies in the early summer.
- We plan to use shuttles for parking and once we have secured our dates with the city of Irmo, we will work out the details of the parking/shuttle situation with area businesses and hotels.
- We would love to offer beer, mead and wine, if allowed. We will be bringing in food vendors for the tavern. Patrons will be expected to finish their libations in the tavern (far picnic shelter) while listening to live music.
- We plan to offer several shows in the Prisma Ampitheater throughout the weekend. None of the entertainment will use excessive loudspeakers and amplification will be kept to a minimum, as befits a "historical" setting.
- We would like to bring in a petting zoo if allowed and possibly a "unicorn" for photo ops. There is a possiblity we may secure a bird of prey show. We are planning melee demonstrations in the field and are planning to use hay bales for seating around the melee areas.
- We have committed to nothing yet pending approval of the use of Moore Park for the selected days. We are flexible to the Town's requirements and requests.
- We will submit a full vendor list 30 days before the festival and distribute tax forms as required to anyone collecting money at the festival.
- We ask for guidance on sanitation and security from the Town. We plan to have a miniumum of 8 portable toilets. We would be happy to pay Irmo Police for security or we can get private security for the site if more appropriate.
- We will have a first aid tent on site for minor needs and to coordinate any emergencies that might arise.
- We will prioritize local small businesses and food vendors when accepting merchants
- We are not currently working with a local church or charity but are actively seeking a worthy cause to support
- We may possibly find a corporate sponsor to help with some costs
The Festival at the Friars' Gate will use street names from the surrounding neighborhoods in its naming conventions; while it won't mean anything to out-of-towners, we think the locals will get a kick out of the Old Well Tavern and the Market Hall, etc.
